Webchat V5 Is Now the Default
« on: July 19, 2026, 03:19:08 pm »
We have officially made Webchat V5 the default chat experience across the network.

This change was necessary because V4 had reached the point where adding new features, fixing problems, and supporting modern browsers was becoming increasingly difficult. V4 served the network well for a long time, but much of its design was built around an older style of web chat. Continuing to build on top of it would have meant spending more time working around limitations and less time improving the actual chat experience.

V5 gives us a cleaner and more flexible foundation for the future while keeping the familiar room-based chat experience people already know.

What Webchat V5 Offers

V5 includes a more modern and responsive layout that works better across desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and phones. It also provides improved room navigation, a better people list, easier access to whispers, updated message formatting, theme options, media support, improved notifications, transcript tools, and many other quality-of-life improvements.

Some of the features available in V5 include:

A cleaner, more modern interface
Better support for smaller screens and mobile devices
Improved whispers and private conversations
Emoticons, GIFs, stickers, and media previews
Custom message formatting and nickname colors
Desktop notifications for mentions and whispers
Transcript search and message tools
Better theme and appearance options
Improved performance and maintainability
A stronger foundation for future features

V5 is still being actively developed. That means we can continue improving it, responding to user feedback, fixing issues, and adding features without being held back by the older V4 structure.

V4 Is Still Available

We understand that some users may prefer the familiar V4 layout, so it has not been removed.

To switch from V5 to V4:

Right-click inside the room and select “Switch to V4.”

To switch back to V5:

Click “Switch to V5” in the top menu.

The webchat will remember your choice, so you will continue opening your preferred version on future visits.

Why V5 Matters

This update is not about changing chat just for the sake of changing it. It is about making sure the network can continue to grow, remain compatible with modern devices and browsers, and offer new features for years to come.

Our goal is to keep real-time chat fun, easy to use, and welcoming while giving the platform the modern foundation it needs.

We encourage everyone to try V5 and share feedback, ideas, or problems they encounter. Your input helps shape what comes next.
