False accusations: how to protect yourself?

So I’ve been meaning to ask, has anyone here ever dealt with false accusations? Something like someone blaming you for something you honestly didn’t do? It’s been eating me up lately because a guy I barely know at work told our manager I damaged his car in the parking lot. The crazy part? I wasn’t even near the lot that day — I had called in sick. But now it’s all super awkward, and I keep thinking, what if this escalates? How do people usually protect themselves legally in situations like this? I’ve never been in this type of mess before, so any advice would help.

Ugh, sorry you’re dealing with that. It’s insane how easily false accusations can mess with your life, even if you’re totally innocent. Something kinda similar happened to my cousin — his ex accused him of damaging her property just out of spite. Luckily, he stayed calm, gathered evidence (texts, photos, even receipts), and got a lawyer involved early. Honestly, having proper legal backup makes a huge difference. Best advice in this situation, tell the manager to look on the video security camera's at work, this is where all the evidence will be ,and if you were not in that day, that's also were your boss can back you up ,or other witness ....even if other business near by, with their security camera footage, which you can request by the police too look for you ......and make a statement. hope this helps  good luck.
