Builders are choosen for their Caste, they are observed, interviewed, recomended and voted into the Caste, one black ball and the whole process starts over. Sure anyone can build, they can add on, they can build a wall or remodel anything, the difference is the quality, the eye for detail, the safety of putting up a structure knowing others will be safe inside and around.
They are brought in as Entered Aprrentices, some say the toughest degree, they are taught stress dynamics, hydraulics, higher mathmatics the correct way and use of any tool, and their first projects are judged critically, mostly mock ups, testsed for the afore mentioned specifications and if not met the Master Builder instructing them will destroy it in front of their eyes and simply say "Again."
As Fellows of the Craft ( sometimes reffered to as Fellowcrafts ) thier education intensifies, sent to build sites, the correct markings on blueprints so any Builder may read them, the movement of supplies, the chain of crews, from other Builders to thralls, the safe use of scaffolds, tack and pulleys, fulcrum points, how to move anything from a pennynail to blocks of stones.
When they arrive at the degree of Master Builder, many have dropped away and those left are indeed Masters of their crafts. Everything they learned, everything they strived for comes to fruition, they plan, they exicute with detail and passion. A full two years passing is when they are entrusted with the secrets of energy bulbs and by this point they have been on builds of their own as well as others, they are tight in their Brotherhhod, do not confuse confidence with cocky, sure they have an aire about them, but their buildings, their walls will outlive themselves as well as others.
The Brotherhood of Master Builders is strong, is tighter then any bond you may imagine. They own great tracts of land, forrests of any tree imagainable, mines of ores and precious stones and metals, marble and granite sites, slices of land with roads leading through the most peaceful valleys to the most rocky terrain and they own this all comunally, funds flow in and out for upkeep, labor, shipping costs distribution and retail. They have no need for Trading Posts for supplies, they and the Caste of Merchants exchange products, coin, supplies all with nothing but a handshake from long ago, both of them have been known to crush any Trader, Dealer, Seller underfoot when supply lines are threatened without a thought at all.
They are know as Good Men and True, if they say it will be so, it will be..they may laugh to loud, they may seem detatched, but all around them they see what has been done, the shoulders they proudly stand upon and the things that need to be done are in their eyes...so mote it be
