Balanced
The faded green silk dress hung in tatters
Her chest heaved up and down as she struggled to catch her breath
Pale blue eyes darted from side to side occasionally peering over her left shoulder
What was it and how long had it been following her
Was it a person or was it something...she was unsure
Trembling hands reach up to cover her mouth as she tries to smother her breathing
Then she heard it very faintly at first
The crunch of leaves the steady sound of footsteps heavy as if wearing boots
I can hear you
A gasp almost escaped her lips but she caught herself immediately
The footsteps louder and heavier as words became a bit darker
I can smell your fear
She began to shake knowing that if she ran whatever it was would catch her
But if she remained still...
She leaned back against the tree convinced that her imagination had run wild
Suddenly she felt icy cold fingers on her right shoulder, not grasping but firmly placed
She let out a loud piercing scream and sat up in her bed
Sweat beaded on her forehead as she grabbed onto the blanket , her eyes scanning the room
It was just a dream she told herself as she slowly climbed out of bed and flicked on the light
The room was empty or so she thought
Convinced it was nothing more than a nightmare she flicked off the light and crawled back under the covers
As she slowly closed her eyes from the darkness a voice whispered...
I can see you
