The Blind Veil: Ultimate Sacrifice

*No more stories after this for a while lol Enjoy*

After I left the house I of course went back to my life convinced I had locked away the threat for good. Life moved on and eventually I ended up married and I gave birth to a little girl who was born with very unique green eyes unlike I had ever seen before.I did not give it another thought and I placed the key on a chain and gave it as a gift to my daughter, a reminder of her grandmother. All seemed good in our lives and for a while it was as if none of it had ever happened. One day things started to slowly change. One morning I was getting my daughter ready for her bath and tried to remove the necklace from around her neck and it felt cold to the touch, unnaturally cold. I tried to shrug it off as nothing and proceeded with the bath but as time passed, I noticed that my daughter became more and more obsessed with playing with the key, her little fingers tracing along the length of it.

By the time she was two years old she starts babbling things that do not make sense at first..she keeps pointing to the wall and talking about her “friend” who sings to her at night and about the man who scratches against the wall. Terrified, I look around but do not find anything to indicate someone else has been in the room. Children have a habit of inventing imaginary friends and I wanted to pretend that is all it was. She then starts tracing symbols in the air with her fingers before drawing them on paper, the very symbol that I now realizes was the one I drew on the door in the old house with my own blood. The drawing however showed the blood as fading. I could feel my heart moving up into my throat as I picked up the picture and stared at it. How was it even possible for her to be able to create that drawing at such a young age with no knowledge of what it implied.

The night terrors started soon after but they were not typical…they were happening at 1 am each morning like clock work and my daughter would wake up screaming. When I tried to comfort her small shaking frame she would tightly grip the key that hung from her neck and stare past my face and into the darkness. After the fifth night of getting up to comfort my screaming daughter it finally dawned on me and my mind came into focus realizing that the time conincided with when I unlocked that door for the first time.

I am forced to remember my confrontation with the entity and realizing now that no matter how far away we were, it knew of my daughter, that the key that was used to lock the door was connecting the entity with the next generation. It had become a tracking device that activated the very moment the key touched my daughter's flesh. It was now even from hundreds of miles away looking for a way to get to her, to complete its task of freeing itself. It had been spending all of this time building its strength preparing for the next confrontation which it had no intention of losing.

I became desperate and needed to find out if there was anything out there about the history of the house. I did online searches and delved into dark forums until I was led to a name of an occult specialist, someone who also happened to know quite a bit about the history of that town but more so about the history of myfamily and my grandmother's house..He had chosen to remain a hermit for the most part but I was able to convince him to speak to me after hearing who I was and how I was related to the house. There was an arrangement that I would meet him on the following Tuesday during daylight hours at a quiet coffee shop. He listened about my childhood, my grandmother, the entity I accidently released and how she had trapped it again but now my daughter as a toddler was experiencing things she now fearfully admitted was connected to the entity and needed to know how to put an end to it. I pulled out the picture that my daughter had drawn and set it on the table in front of him. After looking at it he stood up and walked to the window in his shop and stared out of it not speaking for a moment. When he turned I could see the serious look on his face and dreaded what he might tell her. He paused for a moment before speaking in a lowered voice” The entity has bonded with your daughter through the possession of the key which she wears. It knows she is young but when you left you gave it no choice but to wait. If you had sold the house, someone else would have broken the seal and it would be free to roam the earth and prey on anyone it chose. You were the one to bind it to that room with your blood but the blood is decaying and it has had years to possess the house, to await your return. There is only one way to protect your daughter from inheriting the curse”

He paused looking her straight in the eyes “ You must confront the entity and allow it to take over your body but before it takes over your mind…you must end your life. It is the only way you can protect your daughter from it.”

I sank into the chair as the words spoken hit me like a brick wall. The only way to save the young girl was to give up my own life. I know that if I do not do it, my daughter might not be strong enough to fight it off and it will never end. I must leave her with her father, telling her  that I love  her and one day I  hope she will understand. My husbans looks confused as I take the key from around our daughter's neck and leaves the house, not yet knowing that they will never see me again.

I decide to drive the 6 hrs back to her grandmother's house with my family's picture sitting on the dashboard. I am left with my own thoughts as the miles bring me closer and closer to my destination. As I pull into the driveway, I sense the presence that envelops the house. I slip a small vile of poison into my shirt pocket and take a deep breath, my left hand now gripping the key tightly as I force my way up the front steps and stands on the porch. As I reache to the front door it opens as if someone was standing behind it waiting for me. Slowly I steps inside and move towards the stairs. The door shut behind me but I had no desire to escape because she knows this is her final act. I could already see a large shadow looming near the top of the stairs and for a brief moment I wanted to just run away.

“You returned” a deep voice echoed in my ears as I gripped the railing, forcing myself upwards one step at a time till I reached the landing. The wall I had built to hide the door was gone and I could see the door bulge and move with each breath I took. Finding myself in front of the door I took the brass key which I held onto tightly and slipped it into the lock. I was not sure she was prepared for what was to come next as she turned it hearing the clicking sound. Everything went silent for a few seconds before the door swung open almost knocking me off my feet. A large menacing shadow loomed in the doorway, long arms with sharp nails reached out and yanked me into the darkness of the room, the door slamming shut behind me.

“You must pay the price”it sneered as it encompassed my body. I could feel me slowly losing control of my body as it took over getting stronger and stronger and it was almost time. I closed my eyes as I struggled to put my right hand to the pocket of my shirt and I pulled out the vile. Using my left hand I quickly removed the lid and then raising the vile to my lips I drank it. It was a potent poison and before the entity had even realized what I had done it was too late. It had completely bonded to my dying flesh flesh, my heart beating less and less till it completely stopped. The entity lets out a shriek as I collapse to the floor, my flesh and the entity both destroyed.

The next day the father leaves his daughter with a friend and flies to the home of his wife's grandmother not understanding why his wife did not return. He discovers that the house is surrounded by police and there is an ambulance. He sees the body of his wife being taken out by a stretcher and he starts to panic not understanding what is going on. He is told that someone heard screaming coming from the house before it all went silent. The following investigation gathered evidence of something they could not explain…the dried blood on the door, the claw marks on the inside of that one particular room and the smell of rotting flesh but there was nothing to be found. The only other item they found was a small brass key that still sat in the lock of the door.

He now had to mourn the loss of his wife as he struggled to comprehend everything. While checking in the wife's car for possible clues, they came across an envelope with her husband's name on it with a letter inside.

“My darling,

By the time you read this letter I will be gone. Please take care of each other and know I did love you both very much. I am not sure there would ever be enough words to explain. I did what I had to do to protect our daughter. One day when you are ready, open the safety deposit box at our bank. It will have everything you will need to understand. Please forgive me for leaving you both but I did it out of love.”

One day the husband might be brave enough to open the safety deposit box to find journals, letters, everything about the house and the entity that she was not brave enough to share while she was alive.Tucked beneath there will be a torn slip of paper from the journal that still sat in the house as it lay silent. To this day no one will ever how it managed to find its way there and perhaps they never will.

Would he understand the sacrifice I made? Our daughter's eyes would always be a reminder of what haunted the family for generations, an escape from the horror that had been waiting for her.

Sitting on the front porch of their home, he took his daughter into his arms and whispered in her ear that her mother loved her. Green eyes looked up at her fathers face and a small smile crossed her lips, a sense of peace radiating from her. If only he knew…
