Cont. from the other day....I totally forgot to add cooking to my list of things i love to do, silly me!!!
​.....I started cooking, well trying to lol, when i was a kid growing up on my parent's dairy farm here in Australia. We had a small but very inviting country kitchen with the old fashion wood stove and boy did my Mother make some awesome meals in that, from roasts and casseroles to puddings and the best sponge cakes ever! I started off doing the simplest tasks like mixing the ingredients together for my Mum, then was graduated to actually being allowed to measure the ingredients and using the electric mixer, then of course licking the beaters after, what kid doesnt love to do that! lol. Making my first sponge was a feat in itself and a bit of a disaster, but dont all good cooks have disasters? Well my Mum told me that anyway lol. I placed the cake tin with the sponge mix into the wood oven, Mum said, 'Do not open the door, wait till its ready to come out.' Did i listen to her when she went off to do some laundry and left me in charge? You guessed right...NO! Well then i knew what she meant by not opening the door...my beautiful sponge cake had sunk!!! thats what i got for being a nosey parker lol.My dear Mother came to the rescue and when the cake has cooled she filled the sunken 'disaster' with whipped cream! So anyway that was my first attempt at my Mum's sponge cake. Next Instalment tomorrow.
