I think that its a sad day for the UK. What a lot of people don't realise is that the UK was broken and really the poor man of Europe in the 50's and 60's. We had to go cap in hand and ask for bail outs from the IMF and without those the country would have ground to a halt. Now that we have left, I see a very poor, little, at the edge of the world, country. Always been proud to have been British. but when you see 52% of the country being so bigoted and racist. shames me to the core.
I don't feel strongly either way, quite honestly, but it seems that the pros of staying outweigh the pros of leaving. I read that many of those who voted to leave didn't fully understand the consequences of their vote and wanted to retract. Others seemed confused, thinking they voted to remain when in fact, they opted to leave. Had I been a British citizen last week, I probably would have chosen to remain in the EU. Trump's applause of the pro-leave made me lean more in the stay column.
the ballot papers where very clear in there question stay or leave, it was as simple as that, i voted out, why? because i believe in democracy, my country, my fellow Britons (no matter what color or creed). Yes Europe helped us when it was a Common Market, i would have voted stay if the EU institutions was democratically elected, but it is not. the EU is trying to create a federal Europe out of a common market, i prefer poor and free than bondage under a EU super state.
The problem being Adie, we will still have to abide by the rules that are being set by Europe. The majority of the legislation that is passed is for trade. If you take Norway, which is the way we will go. We will still have to allow freedom of movement of people. We will still have to abide by the legislation and have it woven into our trading agreements with them and we will still pay. They have calculated that we will pay roughly what we were paying.
Most of the arguments for leaving, not being able to deport people and having our court ruling challenged, were nothing to do with EU. They were to do with the international court of human rights and other conventions that we are signed up to. They will all still apply being outside Europe. Also if someone came to the uk looking for work from Europe, under EU law, they did not have the right to live and get benefits. They had 3 months to find a job or return home.
